This page is aimed at people fitting ZETECs into other Fords or kit cars.
Paul James has sent me some pictures and information on his ZETEC upgrade on an Orion. The car originaly had the 1.6 CVH engine and he has upgraded it to a 'black top' Focus 2 ltr engine. He was able to keep the Focus sump although it did need to be ground down in one arear to fit the original started motor. He used the lighter 1.8 ZETEC flywheel and kept his CVH clutch. As there are problems in using the Focus ECU in other cars owing to the PATS he has used the ECU and loom from a 2 lt Mondeo. Apparently the part of the loom he needed just unplugged from the main loom so nice and simple. In all there were 15 wires and a couple of relays/fuses to wire up and he was in buisness.
Parts needed were:
2 lt mondeo ECU and engine loom
Escort exhaust manifold and downpipe (now de-catted)
Focus air intake pipe... couldn't find an airbox to fit so now got K&N
3 relays and 2 auxillary fuse boxes, fuses, connectors
Loads of patience.........
Total cost were £250 for an extra 30+ bhp

One advantage of fitting a ZETEC into an older car is you do not need to keep the cat pipes and emission equipment. Your car only has to reach the emission standards of whatever is older out of the engine or body shell. In my case me car has to reach 1968 emissions standards, not difficult!
